Funko announces first Digital POP! NFTs
Funko announced yesterday that they are entering the digital World with some digital Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles POP! Figures.
After announcing intentions to expand into non-fungible tokens (NFTs) earlier this year, Funko has now unveiled its first collection of digital Pop! collectibles, which will go on sale on August 3rd.
These figures, dubbed “Digital Pops!” will be sold in packs beginning at $9.99. Collectors may find a rare Funko Digital Pop! in each pack of Digital Pops!, which they can exchange for a free, limited-edition physical Pop! figure in person.
The first Digital Pops! collection will include characters such as Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, and Shredder from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). A pack of five Digital Pop! collectibles will cost $9.99, while a bundle of 17 will cost $29.99. Fans will find digital cards of various rarity in the packs, ranging from Common to Grail.
A multicolored “Legendary” Bebop (1,467 pieces), a “Legendary” Shredder (1,467 pieces), a metallic “Legendary” Casey Jones (1,467 pieces), and a rainbow chrome “Grail” Leonardo (999 pieces) are among the rare NFTs that fans may redeem for real Pops! in the TMNT collection. Fans who collect all of the NFTs in the series will get a complimentary limited-edition Pop! figurine of Freddy Funko dressed in TMNT garb (2,160 pieces).
In addition to announcing the topic of its first digital collectibles, Funko also released a blog post with instructions on how to use the NFTs and the WAX blockchain, where these collectibles will be stored. Collectors must first create a WAX account at wallet.wax.io in order to buy Funko Digital Pop! products. Fans may buy the collectibles using their credit cards, but they’ll need the WAX wallet to view their NFT collection and buy/sell/trade the digital collectibles. Collectors will also need the free Tokenhead app, which is available now on the App Store and Google Play, to keep track of their Digital Pop! collection.

Fans who uncover one of these gems will get a “Redemption Coin” on their WAX account 120 days after the series debuts. The collector has 30 days to redeem the coin after it has been received in their account. It’s worth noting that the redemption coin will go to the current owner of the NFT at the 120-day mark, not the initial purchase. As a result, if you sell your unique Digital Pop! figure a week after opening it, the new owner will get the actual figure instead of you.
